Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I qualify for this study?
Anyone at or above the age of 18 years who has access to a smartphone or tablet is invited to participate.
Where does the study take place?
This online mobile-app based study can be completed from anywhere in the United States!
What will the study involve?
In this study, you will be given a link to complete several online questionnaires, which ask about behaviors and thoughts. These questionnaires will take approximately 45-60 minutes to complete. After these questionnaires are completed, you will receive instructions on how to download an application on your phone or tablet that will ask you questions 4 times a day for 10 days. These questions will ask about your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, and will last about 5 minutes each. Six months and one year after this, you will receive a link to complete the follow-up questionnaires (30-45 minutes) online. After the COVID-19 pandemic has subsided, you will receive a link to complete the final follow-up questionnaires (30-45 minutes).
What are the benefits of participation?
The potential benefits of this study include a potential increase in self-monitoring of thoughts and behaviors, which has been shown to be associated with improved behavioral outcomes. The information in this study will help shed light on how the COVID-19 pandemic and associated stressors exacerbate daily functioning in eating and physical activity and contribute to negative mental and physical health outcomes, ultimately informing targeted interventions to help those impacted by this unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic.
Are there any risks associated with participating?
You may feel bored or fatigued as a result of the online questionnaires and app-based surveys.
Will I be compensated for this study?
You will be paid for your time, inconvenience, or expenses while you are in this study. You will receive up to $80 for completing this study. More specifically, if you complete 50% of mobile surveys, you will be paid $20; if you complete 80% of surveys, you will be paid $40; if you complete 90% of surveys, you will receive $50. In addition, you will be paid an additional $5 for completing the 6-month follow-up surveys, an additional $10 for the 1-year follow-up, and an additional $15 for the post-COVID-19 follow up.
