About the study
The purpose of this study is to better understand how to apply a data modelling technique to an individual’s “real-world” data (collected via smartphone) to personalize treatment for individuals with an eating disorder. This study will help us to better understand how to personalize treatment and may lead to improved treatments for individuals with an eating disorder, which is why your participation is so important to us.

How do I know if I qualify for this study?
You will be asked to complete a brief online screening survey (5 minutes) to determine whether you are eligibile to complete the full study. You are eligible for this study if you:
What will I be asked to do during the study?
You will be asked to complete a brief screening online (5 minutes) to determine whether you are eligibile to complete the full study. If eligible, you will be invited to complete the full study, which will involve several phases of data collection online over a period of approx. 90 days (three months). You will be asked to complete an online baseline assessment (30-45 minutes), brief online surveys (3 minutes) via your smartphone four times daily for 90 days, and an online 3-month follow-up assessment (30-45 minutes). You will also be invited to complete brief individual interviews online with the study researchers at mid-study and at 3-month follow-up (15-30 minutes) for additional compensation; these interviews are optional.
Where does the study take place?
The study takes place completely online, with daily surveys completed via a mobile phone application on your smartphone. You can participate from anywhere in the United States!
What are the benefits of participating in the study?
At the end of the study we will provide you with personalized feedback about how your eating disorder maintains itself and provide suggestions for what you could focus on in future treatment for your eating disorder. You can use this information to help you to inform treatment selection. Additionally, while the results of this research may not directly benefit participants, it may lead to improvements in personalized treatment for individuals with an eating disorder.
Are there any risks associated with participating in the study?
As part of this study you will be asked to provide information on some sensitive topics, including eating disorder behaviors and diagnoses, body image, eating styles, and mood. It is possible that you may feel some discomfort as a result of answering the questionnaires. This risk is necessary to determine eating disorder diagnosis for eligibility purposes and to obtain information on the study variables of interest (e.g., eating disorder behaviors, body image, mood). If you feel any discomfort as a result of this study or if you need suggestions regarding personal or emotional support or referral information you are welcome to contact the P.I., Dr. Jamie-Lee Pennesi, at jamielee.pennesi@louisville.edu.
Do I have to participate in this study?
Taking part in this study is voluntary. You do not have to answer any questions that make you uncomfortable. You may choose not to take part at all. If you decide to be in this study you may stop taking part at any time. You will not lose any benefits for which you may qualify.
Will I be compensated for participating?
You will be paid up to $210 in gift cards for completing the assessments during the study and and participation in optional interviews.

- Have a current diagnosis of anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, or other specified feeding or eating disorder (OSFED)
- Are aged 18-64
