Mindful Self-Compassion Study

We are no longer recruiting participants for this study.

About the Study

The purpose of this study is to assess the feasibility and outcomes of an 8 week mindful self-compassion group workshop among individuals with eating disorders. Participants will be asked to complete questionnaires and to attend 8 free mindful self-compassion group sessions. Group sizes will range between 5-10 participants. This is a paid study, with an opportunity to receive a $10 gift card in addition to the free mindful self-compassion sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I qualify for this study?
Anyone at or above the age of 18 years, and below the age of 65 years old  who meets criteria for a current eating disorder diagnosis is invited to participate.

Where does the study take place?
Due to COVID-19, the study will be online until further notice. We will use videoconferencing software to conduct the mindful self-compassion group sessions.

What is the duration of the study?
The total duration of this study will be approximately 8 weeks. Participants will be asked to complete a follow-up survey one month after completing the mindful self-compassion group sessions. Participants who complete the one month follow-up survey will be paid $10.

What are the benefits of participation?

The possible benefits of this study include  learning mindfulness and self-compassion skills and getting social support from the group setting. Completing questionnaires has no direct benefit to the participant. However, participants may become more aware of behaviors, thoughts, and cognitions related to their eating disorder.

Are there any risks associated with participating?

You may feel bored or fatigued as a result of the online questionnaires. Participants will be told that they do not need to share information that is uncomfortable to them, however, those who elect to share with the group may feel discomfort while doing so.

How much will I be paid?
You can be paid up to $10 for participation, if you complete the one month follow-up questionnaire.

Where can I participate from?
You can participate from ANYWHERE in the United States!
